Desert Island Flicks: Tim Minchin

So the encounters film festival hit Bristol the other week and I decided to check out Tim Minchin's Desert Island Flicks, which shoulld have been more suitably named; Tim Minchin's animator friend's Desert Island Flicks, as the evening seemed to be more centered the animator himself and his choices rather than Minchin's input, who remained rather nervously quiet throughout the evening. They bagan the evening with 5 clips of different animations the animator present found inspiring, for me and my friends, being animation enthusiasts, this was no problem however I can sympathise with other members of the audience who just wanted to get down to it and watch 'Storm' beacuse the did seem to drag it out a bit! However overall it was a fun evening and good performance (even if it was in need of a bit shuffling around :p) But most importantly the animation was really good 'Storm' is Minchins 9 minute rant on what he wished he'd said when face with an egocentric aloof woman he met at a dinner party, DC Turner (animator) approached this subject in flash and pulled it off pretty well!

sadly since the release of the film they've taken it of Youtube, but here's the trailer, and  I'll also post the whole of Tim Minchins rant as its a must listen! :)

Sick and Twisted Animations

Good day, I suppose this can be classed as the grand opening of my blog as this is my first post... ever!

So I'll try and make it a good'un

On Tuesday evening I checked out an animation screening in Bedminster, in a really swish pub called the 'Hen and Chicken' proud owners of one black and white tabby cat. Anywhooo going by it's title I  prepared myself for some gorey animation, it ended up more humour than gore which I can't complain about! A combination of wit, cheek and at times the down-right creepy, made these animations really enjoyable to watch whilst many avoiding the dreaded cliches.

Here are a few that I could find on youtube; hope you enjoy!

I thought their used of black and white showed you smart you can be with simpler methods

Here's another firm favourite called 'The Furious Little Cinnamon Bun'

the thing from the sky is actaully a giant penis, you can watch the uncensored version  as well as many other great 'Lone Sausage' animations at: http://www.mondominishows.com/index.php?IdEpisode=552&episodesPage=0&series=28

Thats all I'm going to post for now, as I'm going to write my illustrated essay!

With love from Katie x
